OutSiders Influencce
2024 BA Hons Degree show
This exhibition presents a cohesive collection of three distinctive works: a hanging sculpture, a painting, and a concrete sculpture. Each piece intricately explores the complexity of communication within society, reflecting on the fluid dynamics of nurturing environments that simultaneously challenge and dismantle unrealistic expectations rooted in gender social constructs.
The hanging sculpture, outsiders Influence; utilises layered materials to create a visual dialogue that shifts with viewer interaction, symbolising the transient nature of communication within family social constructs.
The painting, Open Dialogue; employs monochromatic ink painting, with red pencil and abstract forms to depict societal pressures lead to anxiety and self-doubt as individuals navigate family, community, and cultural expectations. Challenging norms requires courage and self-reflection, encouraging the acceptance of uniqueness and uncomfortable conversations.
Lastly, the concrete sculpture, Nurture & Destruction; stands as a stark, tactile representation of rigid structures imposed by traditional gender norms, juxtaposed against softer and organic elements that suggest the possibility of transformation.
Collectively, these works foster a deeper understanding of the nuances of communication and the potential for change within societal frameworks.
